Research and Innovations Award in Water Science

(Third Round, September 2018)

 

The Research Council and Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science are pleased to announce the start of receiving applications for the Water Research and Innovation Award.  It aims to promote the development of high-quality research and to encourage and support Innovative initiatives of individuals, research teams, academic researchers, companies, and the small and medium size enterprises (SMEs). In order to address the current challenges in the water sector and raising awareness in water field. It comprises of two categories:  the scientific publication and the innovations.

First: Scientific Publication Category in Field of Water

This category recognizes outstanding published research that addresses the challenges in the water sector. This category includes:

  1. PhD holders
  2. Young researchers (non-PhD holders)

Conditions for Publication

The paper shall address current concerns in the local water sector in Oman.

2

The applicant must be the first Author, whose name appears first, on the published research or the corresponding author marked by the publisher and must provide a No-Objection statement from their research team members with regard to the participation in the award.

For PhD-Holders, the topic shall not be part of their academic thesis (MSc or PhD), but they can be part of their students thesis.

For Non PhD-Holders: the topic can be part of academic thesis.

5

The research shall be novel, contributes to the knowledge of water sciences, and exhibit a potential for application.

The research shall be published in a refereed scientific journal indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, at the time of publication, or in one of the Arabic periodicals listed in the Award’s website, and no more than five years have passed since the date Publishing.

The applicant is allowed to submit only one application for the award and the published research must not have won any other award in Oman or internationally.

Researchers are required to provide any supporting information that may be requested by TRC.

The Award evaluation committee’s members are not allowed to compete for the Award.

10

The evaluation committee’s decision shall be considered final and no objection in this regard will be entertained.

The Award Winners must be willing to present their research study at the Award Forum.

All applications shall be submitted via on-line route, and applications by any other means shall be excluded.

Second: Innovations Category in Field of Water

This category includes:

  • Water innovation prototypes: which represents small-scale entries in early stage technology with realistic expectations for commercialization.
  • Water innovation products\services: which represents larger-scale entries with operational benefits or achievements.

This category involves two parts:

  1. Innovation
  2. Young Innovator

Conditions for Innovation

The entry shall contain a good description that is understandable and clear about the product or service and its expected impact in addressing the issues or concerns in the water industry and water management.

The application should include sufficient supporting documents that reflect the originality consisting one or more of the followings:

  • Analysis certificate by a recognized organization or Approved Lab-scale testing report.
  • IP registration (when applicable)

The entry, that is either a new technology or modification/improvement in an existed technology, should identify the major improvement in the proposed product with reference to the original idea.

A demonstration on how is it developed and transform to product or service with A demonstration of the innovation benefits and the competitive advantages of the entry in the field of water.

An illustration of the economic feasibility, applicability and the estimation of the overall sustainable benefits.

The applicant is allowed to submit only one application for the award and it must not have won any other award in Oman or internationally.

7

The applicant is required to provide any supporting information that may be requested by Award committees.

The Award evaluation committee’s members are not allowed to compete for the Award.

9

The evaluation committee’s decision shall be considered final and no objection in this regard will be entertained.

The award winners must be willing to present their innovations at the Award Forum.

11

Conditions for Young Innovator-School Students

The school student must be in grades (10 to 12)

The entry shall contain a good description that is understandable and clear about the product or service that address a current challenge in the water issues in Oman.

3

The entry, that is either a new technology or modification/improvement in an existed technology, should identify the major improvement in the proposed product with reference to the original idea.

4

The student (or group of students) is allowed to submit only one application for the award and the innovation must not have won any other award in Oman or internationally.

5

The small-scale prototype shall be supported by the followings:

  • Presentation panel and innovation report.
  • Testing and approval certificate from the school of the student.
  • Expected social and economic benefits.
